Art Description

Painting: Acrylic on Other.

I occasionally paint realistic artworks of aircraft or vehicles as a change from portraiture and my usual wildlife subjects. This illustrative painting is of the iconic British BAC Lightning, this one in the livery of the Number 111 Squadron. It has been adapted from a photo courtesy of my friend Bruce Woodruff.

The painting was awarded the RAF Museum prize in 2016 at the annual Armed Forces Art Society exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.

The paint used is not normally chosen for this type of artwork, I'm not sure why as the acrylic paint used on panel is extremely fine and has a high pigment ratio. The surface finish is extremely fine - as I wanted in this detailed painting.
