About The Artwork

acrylic on cardboard and wood panel I find things with interesting textures and think, I want to make something out of that. The objects I find are often otherwise useless: containers, packing materials, packaging, paint that dried on my palette. They are the residue of our disposable, one-time-use material culture. By making art with these objects, I give them a purpose again. They are rescued, redeemed, revived. I give these impermanent things permanence and transform them from unnoticed to noticeable. I draw attention to the rhythmic interplay of light and shadow on corrugated cardboard, the dreamlike diaphanous nature of plastic shopping bags, the brilliant hues of the bottles that make our packaged beverages seem all the more appealing. And I call this style of working with the by-products of the products we buy Post-Consumerism.

I am a Chicago based artist working in a variety of media. I have three primary bodies of work: The Doll Project, Post-Consumerism, and Recessionism. I studied art as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago and interior design at Harrington College of Design and hold a Masters Degree in Painting from Governors State University. My art has been exhibited in several Chicago area venues, including group shows at The Chicago Children's Museum and the Chicago Center for Green Technology and solo exhibitions at the Harold Washington Library and The Adler School for Professional Psychology. When I am not painting, I work as a freelance interior designer and receptionist. In addition to this, I am a Jeopardy! champion.
