Color Map #81 Painting

Color Map #81 is part of the ongoing exploration of composition, colors and mark making with a goal of telling a quiet story that takes into consideration my love of maps and walking in Southern California neighborhoods. These artworks colorfully capture the intersection of the natural and built environments through abstract landscapes that are based on maps, Google Earth and digital apps. Navigation and the intersection between the natural and built environment is the basis of my paintings and art installations. Maps in particular have fascinated me for years. More than just a way to plan a trip or find a location, they are conduits for real or imaginary exploration, and can provide a sense of adventure and security. I strive to abstractly capture the colors, terrain, driveways, streets, architecture and other features that are unique to each Southern California neighborhood using watercolor paint. On some paintings I add fiber, ceramics and found objects to show the variations of the geography My paintings were highlighted in Saatchi Art Featured art collection in 2018. I've been included in the Los Angeles editions of The Other Art Fair and chosen as an "Artist to Watch" by Artillery Magazine and one of the "Ten Don't Miss Artists" by Saatchi's head curator Rebecca Wilson for the 2018 Other Art Fair in Santa Monica.
