Jovan Srijemac is a Netherlands-based artist who has exhibited his paintings both nationally and in ex-Yugoslavia. As a professional artist since the 1980s, his artistic expression has taken various forms over the years. He describes his style as an unconscious, often chaotic and explosive application of paint to the canvas, resulting in unplanned figures, objects and abstract portraits. Jovan's vibrant compositions are made with acrylic paint and spray paint on canvas. Works / paintings from the 80s were surreal and painted with oil paint. I wanted to convey a message to the viewers. The main theme was about life in the world, against war. In the 90's my work was gloomy, dark in color, just like my feelings. I escaped from my country (former Yugoslavia) in the early nineties when war broke out. In the 00s I was looking for color. finally succeeded so far. My work is now colorful, abstract expressionist, but I like to experiment with Pop / Street art and action painting. Most of the work is painted with a pallet knife. Color has been applied to the canvas with a feeling and emotion that comes from deep within my soul. Theme is less important when I am satisfied with the composition and color. Experimenting in art, with styles, techniques, colors, etc. is very important to me. I think: "As an artist, if you stick to one style all your life, then you are dead as an artist." In art and in life there is one goal for me: to keep going! And I often say, "We don't know what is hidden behind the closed door until we open it" Quote from my book: "Apocalypse of the soul" This is how I describe my Art. “The chaos of ideas that have arisen in my head, the energy that has been robbed within, wants it out, like a volcano, and so an explosion becomes a symphony of colors on the canvas. From the unconscious, often chaotic and explosive application of paint on the canvas, emerge: in the beginning unplanned figures, objects, portraits or an abstract composition. As with the unplanned conception of a child: birth, growing up, to personality formation and his life. Born, growing up, and we're all framed in the body, our frame, but each one is unique in its own way. ''
