Expressive plein-air, original landscape oil painting on canvas.

This vibrant landscape captures the joy of being outdoors and in connection with nature during the pandemic. I was drawn to this perspectives welcoming nature and the charming simple shapes of the buildings along the adjacent path. Infusing the facades with exaggerated colors that bear witness to reality and a sense of hope inside myself was an organic process. As I watched people spaciously stroll along, I felt a different and more profound sense of unity.

This is a textural scene, from the details that give character to the buildings, to the surrounding plants and trees that hold everything in place. Thoughtful brush strokes fill the canvas with meaning and spontaneity. Beautiful strong lines pair up with the rich palette of colors giving personality and character to the landscapes presence offering a dynamic expression that is simply stated.

This was painted on a gallery wrapped canvas. It is signed and can be hung "as is" or framed. The sides of the canvas have been finished in conjunction with the overall imagery.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
