About The Artwork
A painting of a horse shading itself from the July sun. This horse is one of several which are allowed to roam on Minchinhampton Common, a large area of open grassland owned by the National Trust. Beyond this scene are stunning views across the valleys. I painted this using Golden acrylics on a smooth gesso board and loved the textures of the tree's foliage and the restful pose of the horse dozing quietly. I have been captivated by horses for as long as I can remember and are a favourite subject matter for my work. The painting is protected with 2 coats of Golden UV acrylic varnish and is on a deep edge wooden gesso board. The edge remains unpainted in white and is 3.8cm deep. There are no fixings required as this can be hung simply and secretly on 2 wallmounted screws.

I am an artist based in Gloucestershire, UK but originally from Perthshire, Scotland. I have been fortunate to exhibit in some prestigious institutions including Royal Academy, London, RWA, Bristol and RSA, Edinburgh. I trained in Fine Art Drawing and MFA Painting and have literally been drawing my whole life. My proudest achievement is having my ink drawing 'Ghoul School' in the permanent collection of Prints and Drawings at The British Museum. I was also delighted to receive 'Finest Drawing' award at the National Open Art Competition in 2013.
