About The Artwork
It is part of ancient custom in various cultures to conceal the bride while the marriage rites are performed, it shows that such bride is special or virtuous. A proverb says "It is the importance of the seed that makes the fruit cover it". This peice portrays a bride in wait. The face and beads are mildly textured with palette knife while the wrapper was beautifully detailed with brushes. The painted wrapper was a gift from my mother, and she has had it for so many years. She handed it down to me recently, and I always feel safe when I have it on me. I hope this painting makes you feel warmth inside, treasure yourself, and have a taste of the Igbo culture.
