From my latest series inspired by extreme close-ups of congealed wax textures caused by dousing a burning candle into the wine cup at the mystic End of the Sabbath or Havdala ceremony. The paintings contain innumerable faces and faces within faces, which could be seen as a visual paradigm for the modern human personality, a fitful assemblage of countless family, schooling and social "faces", many of which are even unknown to the bearer. Most of the paintings can be turned or hung sideways and upside down to reveal amazing new faces! http://www.art.net/TheGallery/Vision/newax09yyy.gif An added perk would be to view the paintings with 3-D AVATAR GLASSES to get incredible depth effects!

Born Bronx NY, grew up in Philadelphia area, since 1967 living in Israel. I am engaged in the converging vectors of art and science, but receive added inspiration from kabbalah teachings & meditation and try to create visual forms (in paintings on canvas but also video art) conducive to mystical experience and self-transformation. Various curators have termed my work as abstract illusionist or mystical abstract expressionist. I like to regard myself as an "emerging" artist creating art with many layers and meanings that "emerge" before the viewer, an evocative gestalt that invites the viewer's interaction and discovery. This effect is enhanced by viewing the work with avatar-type 3-D glasses or turning the painting on its different sides (which of course is difficult to achieve in this context). The first works in the slide show are from my latest series: Congealings, which are inspired by extreme close-ups of congealed wax textures caused by dousing a burning candle into the wine cup at the mystic Havdalah or End of the Sabbath ceremony, signifying the "havdala", or separation, from the holy and the secular, from light and darkness. I originally thought to call these creations Angels, but as the canvas began to be populated with all kinds of gargoyles and even ghoulish denizens, many of whom I would be afraid to meet in a dark street, I decided that the relatively neutral term Congealings would be more appropriate. The painting can be turned or hung sideways and upside down to reveal amazing new faces! http://www.art.net/TheGallery/Vision/newax09yyy.gif Recent TV interview with Dov now on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6m08AOmlFc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uipu7j6j_Vs
