This watercolour on paper is built small brush stroke by small brush stroke with a fine brush. Here the white of the stars is the white of the paper. No reference is used for this work, only memory and imagination. There is no planning, but rather a slow uncovering. Hence the title can refer to the subject - a constellation of stars - and to the constellation of small decisions made for the outcome of the work. This watercolor is the first in a series. Next are some large scale works using this technique. This process is similar to that used in my abstract paintings, only the motif is realistic and results in an image that refers to documentary photos we may know. instagram: #goodbrush1 website: www.marcbowditch.com

instagram: #goodbrush1 website: www.marcbowditch.com Born in Johannesburg South Africa, Marc later moved to Canada. As a young boy he was drawing and painting with watercolour and recording what he saw on paper. Later, studies in Architecture took him to London and then to Rome, where he settled for a number of years before moving to Milan, and finally on to Berlin where he now lives and paints. Painting is his vocation, it has accompanied him everywhere. He is autodidact. He first paints sometimes hundreds of small individual abstract watercolours on 300 gram paper. Then he cuts and fold them, connecting each piece within a structure to compose a larger work. These watercolours border on sculptural - he calls them watercolour mosaics.
