Cooking and Cleaning Painting

Here's the newest in my "Small Apartment Life" series. I find that my color palette develops naturally over the course of a painting - I start with an idea for a color scheme and lay out a selection of paints with several colors from each family (red, green, blue ect.) maybe as many as 20 tubes. And then working off the local color (meaning the actual color IRL) it soon starts to evolve and edit itself down to a core group of 7-10 colors with one or two dominating and the rest playing supporting roles. In this case, Cerulean blue was center stage for most of the painting but towards the end, the painting was getting a little too analogous (all the colors closely related) and I needed a breakout star to create some drama - so in came Cadmium Yellow Deep, which has a nice orange-y-ness that compliments the blue and really brings it all alive. I also want to give a shout out to my co-stars Mauve and Cobalt Violet for their excellent supporting work and of course to, Old Holland Scheveningen Warm Grey - couldn't have done it without you buddy. 30x24 oil on canvas
