About The Artwork
Cosmic Pool Party is an original painting by Amy Devlin. My process starts with taking the photographs I work from, I like to experiment with angles and light in the photographing. Every inch of the canvas has multiple layers on to build up the feeling of light, water and body, every layer focusing in on more detail until there is a balance of tight detail and watery fluidity. On a trip to Crete I got some fantastic shots in the incredibly clear water around the west side of the island. This painting is partly inspired by that trip and also incorporating the inflatables I used in a photo shoot this year, I have been waiting to use them for a while and love the slightly bonkers vibe they add. Amy’s current body of work focuses on bodies in water and bodies of water. “I love the exploration, chasing the physical memory of being in water".

Originally from New Zealand, I have been in the U.K. for 20 years now, after 18 years in London I relocated out to the lush Kent countryside where I paint in a studio at the bottom of the garden with my dog and 6 Music. In my paintings I love the idea of recreating the physical memory of water, sunshine and light. I aim to capture in a single moment the exhilaration, the joy, the solitude or the tranquility of being in the water. I explore all manner of subjects in my work but I find the underlying connection of water seems to reoccur continuously.
