ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Abstract acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas with back braces, all edges painted, no staples, ready for display. How did philosophy and art get all tangled up together? Lately I have been privy to some existential hand wringing when it comes to art, in particular, painting. So I believe one of the culprits in all of this angst is Ad Reinhardt, who once said something to the effect that he was painting the last painting that could ever be painted. Since that time the Big Question has been, "What does it all mean?"What is a painting? What is art? What's it all about? That is more than one Big Question! My point in all this rant is that sometimes a painting is just a painting. Will it be new? Well for that painter it sure is new. You should not have to tear your hair out to find what it means. Just because Ad Reinhardt thought he was making the last painting that could ever be, does not mean that was true. Artists should make or represent what they want to see. If you want to paint, draw, or sculpt, just do it. Don't let anyone dissuade you from what you want to do. Being creative is hard enough, you should not have to crash your own dream.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist representation and portraiture. On my own, I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and all the many art movements. I am influenced by Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, and the European Moderns. Part of the joy I find in painting is to participate in a dialogue with past masters. My mission is to make engaging and innovative artworks. I also hope to extend an appreciation of artistic creativity to a wide audience. The process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. Paint and found material are combined on canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting, whenever possible. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
