About The Artwork

In the tradition of Romanticism, I first painted four representational romantic landscapes with idyllic, Arcadian motifs. After that, I painted over the pictures with abstract color paths and partially extinguished them. Romantic painting regarded landscape and nature as the source of a metaphysical dimension and thus as the antipole to the Enlightenment, which was entirely oriented towards reason. Even today, in times of increasing confusion and uncertainty, people long for orientation. However, longing for stability and orientation in the digital age is an absurd hope. Stable normal conditions will not exist anymore. The new normal for the economy, culture and society of Western-influenced industrial societies is disruption. The collaged part shows the view of the "Bastei." The Bastei is a rock formation in the Saxon Switzerland (Germany) Factory specifications: Crumbling Arcadia #3 | Acrylic, lacquer and mixed media on canvas 2017
