About The Artwork
The Culver Abstractions occurred as a power release of energy following a major upheaval in my life. I was making sense of having just moved from Virginia Beach to Los Angeles to build a life with my partner. This series is based on small studies in which I forcefully jerked a pencil around while letting the stressors of change wash over me. The series was made with watered down paint--acting almost as fabric dye--on raw canvas. The black outline was made with heavy body paint applied with emotive gestures with a palette knife. Due to the nature of this piece, it is not a perfect square. The piece will likely hang with a slight tilt and with the frame not sitting flush to the canvas.
