Figurative art: When we speak of figures, we are not talking about nature or natural formations, but about something that people have designed to depict or form. In such figures - in those made of stone as well as in those from stories and myths - there is always something more than mere natural growth. In literature, too, from Greek tragedy to Goethe's Faust to the trivial literature of the present day, from Oedipus, the father-killer and mother-husband to the crime scene commissioner on TV, we are constantly and everywhere confronted with figures, figures that owe their existence to people's need to project their subjective or collective inner space to the outside. Self-stylisations, self-idealisations, hopes for help or redemption, but also fears are reflected in the figures. Thus the artificial and artistic figures gain reality.

Many modern works of art as well as mine trace processes of decay and destruction. Nonetheless it is not the aim of the artist to absolutize these facts or the negativeness in itsself. Actually I think the point is not decay and destruction. Chaos is only the starting point. To me the sense of art lies within its ability to give us a foreshadow of something else. Art wants to show us that processes towards the negative are not the endmost. At the end stands an artwork, thus something composed artificially, but in itsself vivid, something new.
