About The Artwork

There is nothing more interesting to me than people in motion wearing clothing that I get to imagine. Social dancing checks all the boxes that fill my interests. It’s tribal, it speaks to gender, power, and the beauty individuality and in a group. I have backstories for each individual much like an acting exercise. The women are the brilliant unique beauties in my world and the men tend to be a bit colorless.

I think of my work as a public journal, posting daily on Instagram like a firework shot into the night that says I’m here. I haunt the halls of the internet collecting, saving, filing, and organizing hundreds of images. Over time, I distill them down to just the images that eventually reveal deeper meanings. I imbue my figures with complex emotional lives preparing to explode, struggle, or at times are victorious, blissfully at peace so they feel real. I live a solitary life that one could say, I’m literally “making” my friends. I am still the girl sitting in the yard on the green grass drawing for hours with a heart filled with contradictions. My work reflects to me who and where I am in this life. This a short studio visit video I made during the height of the pandemic this past January 2021. Brief bio Lynn Stein spent 16 years as a Curator, Artic Director and Designer w one of the largest multi-arts nonprofit organizations in upstate NY. All my life I always found what little free time I had and made work but as a curator, focusing solely on supporting other artists and their careers. As time seemed to be whizzing by faster and faster with every passing year, I made the decision to retire very early, live as simply as possible and paint fulltime. .
