Day Map J2217 Painting

Daily organizing initiated my process for my Day Map paintings. My life as a working artist and the primary caretaker of two children involves setting assigning values to many different tasks, events, and situations. I translate these “emotional data” into circles of varying sizes and colors. The arrangement of these individual shapes, which to build a unified piece, represents the process of balancing elements in my life. More significant events or situations may have a broader effect on the day-to-day – but often the smaller moments leave a stronger, more profound impression that resonate throughout our lives. I use washes of paint, which is a delicate medium, a basic shape, and subtle use of color to show fragility. I want to show a complete body, while at the same time, showing the individual parts that create it.
