About The Artwork

In 2016 my land was hit by violent earthquakes that lasted several months. Many friends reported seeing this X mark on the wall, which meant they had to leave the house immediately because they were no longer safe. I interpreted this baleful symbol as a warning, like lamb's blood on the door of the Israelites' house, telling the angel of death not to kill their firstborn. In both works, "Daylight earthquake" and "Nocturnal earthquake", I wanted to give a sense of deep wound, like a cut by Lucio Fontana. For those who have experienced the earthquake this wound is imprinted in the mind. People were terrified to hear any noise or vibration. The writing on the wall "the goat crack", is a part of an Italian tongue twister, and refers to the hundreds of animals that died during the winter due to delays in the reconstruction of houses and stables. The white background was created with a spatula, leaving some areas uncovered like a peeling plaster. This is an oil painting and is being sold without a frame.

I was born and I live in Macerata, a medieval town in Italy. I started to love art after a trip to Holland, where I was overwhelmed by Rembrandt’s mysterious modulations of light. Then, I have been studying the references of the Dutch Master, up to the analysis of the creative processes of the Renaissance artists, even through studies on the various restoration by museums and retrieving information on several lost masterpieces. Going on with my research, as a self-taught painter I started using formulations of oil colors and supports compatible with those of the “old masters” in order to get a better duration reliability and thinking of their ability to communicate intense emotions. As a result, current issues such as feminicide and racism, or some classic themes like the initiation to Alchemy have been dealt in a contemporary reworking of techniques, styles and iconography of the past, creating in the studio my own compositions in which references to space and time are reduced to essential. I would like to stimulate the public to reflect on the surrounding reality, also through provocations, urging them to observe my artworks with greater attention, and challenging people to discover their several meanings. | Selected Public Collections Italy: S.
