Deep Waters, Mersing Painting

acrylic ink on handmade Thai mulberry paper (kada sa). This goes back to my days of seaside living on Malaysia’s east coast, and the inspiration it brought me.This is one of those inspirations. The island drawn here is the silhouette of Tioman Island, a famous landmark of that area. The paper I use is a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It is a thick parchment type paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect. I have cropped the uneven edges for the print version. The close up picture is of higher resolution to be able to get a feel for the brush stroke and texture of the paper.
