Deer Painting

Kim, Soyeon I have been working on various experimental 2-dimensional drawings in relation to pop-cultural media. For example, my work "Sequence",and "Series-Painting" which I have been working on since 2000. These works are produced in the sense and language of film. The main concern of my work is to create a story like a scenario through a parody from the existing scenes of film or strategy of illusion or a metaphor. I am concerned about the boundary of pictoral and non-pictoral situations which are beyond the existing practices in art and which are created to break boundaries.This is the result of my long experimental way of working and consequently this is how I come to express a story. Through the images interwoven each other, a work of art engenders symbolically unfamiliar stories that are various in their meanings. Like a hypertext novel, that recalls a huge variety of contents and contexts. As the hypertext novel is open to a myriad of possibilities in its composition, the stream of its stories can be very different, depending on the selection of each reader. Its storylines, composed of several plots are plural and crossing each other, speaking simultaneously in a number of voices without emphasizing merely one of them. Furthermore, the stories allow the readers to take part creatively in the process of remaking the storylines in a non-orderly manner, thereby stimulating them to communicate diversely. My work has been continuously inspired by this point with which I am chiefly concerned. My work has no any narratives that are lineal or concrete in their structures. Incomplete as it is, my work relies heavily on the union and correlation of images. In other words, my work endlessly extends in the structure of juxtaposing images, thereby forming the context of a story. Through the experimentation of dividing, juxtaposing, or connecting fragmental, my work tirelessly seeks to find relativeness, attaining a dramatic form in the two-dimensional surface. I explore the sphere of human spirit and our way of life by the exploitation of the numerous images closely coexisting with us. Paying attention to these essential inseparable relationships, I try to reconstruct universal imagesexisting in my work. This shows a fragmentary image of contemporary society, at the same time it conveys my personal view.
