ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is acrylic, pencil, collage and screenprint on archival paper. It is float-mounted in a square-edged white frame. The dimensions include frame. "Deering defense" was a finalist in the 2014 Scope Art Prize in Victoria, Australia This work reflects on the how our destruction of natural habitats negatively impacts both flora and fauna. In this image, a deer-figure defiantly holds up a tree-emblazoned flag to an encroaching bulldozer. The irony is that animals cannot defend themselves or their habitats against the destruction of humans and their machines. Sadly, nature is being increasingly bulldozed by the demands of humanities escalating population, needs and desires.
