About The Artwork

Acrylic paint. Possibly the most versatile medium ever created. I started painting with acrylics before I was a teenager. I have found the medium to be capable of so many styles and emotions. I would have loved to see what some of the greats would do with the paint. My acrylic abstracts often flow around two general themes: space and shape. I find myself fascinated with the way the two play with and against each other.

DW Johnson, a multi-dimensional artist working in photography, painting, and writing, has been creating for over four decades. Born and raised in Kansas, USA where he lives with his daughter, a large epileptic dog, three cats, and a barnyard of chickens and ducks. Initially setting out to create fine art photographs in the same style as Ansel Adams. My original work which started over four decades ago has transformed into three distinct areas: My current black and white photographs are created in the T.O.A.D.S. genre. T.O.A.D.S. is an acronym for transient, obsolete, abandoned, derelict sites. They are images of the remnants of man’s existence on earth. My newest paintings are an abstract mixture of acrylic and metal foil. Dense in texture, they are often based on Sumi style paintings. My novels are fantasy fiction. Following in the footsteps of J. R. R. Tolkien and Robert Jordan. I created the acclaimed Iron League Saga and the Darkwater Trilogy. The direction my work has taken was not intentional - it all developed and evolved. People always ask for my artist’s statement, so I needed to do one, but I’ve never liked to explain my work. If I’ve made an image, and that’s how I want it to be, hopefully, it can speak for itself. Each witness takes something different from the same piece.
