Pop art with explosive power - a gas station attendant becomes an arsonist, the controller of the destructive energy inherent in fuel. He himself does not seem to be affected and throws an arrogantly skeptical look at the viewer. The word "BOOM" is to be understood both onomatopoeically and in the meaning of "business cycle". The business around the precious fuel seems to be headed towards the final peak and has probably passed the zenith. A new era is ushered in explosively. The image is a metaphor for the current situation, in which individuals become destroyers and fossil fuels can make the difference between life and death.

Ralph Hackeland was born in Cologne in 1965, later lived on Lake Constance for many years and has worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and designer in Mannheim since studying communication design. In his figurative works, well-known, universal elements and motifs are brought together, creating a dream-like world in the new constellation. The actors seem strangely removed and seem stuck in inevitable developments. The images are snapshots of these developments and become a still image of an inner film, the further course of which is decided by the viewer.
