Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

Inspiration for my work comes from my many walks in heathlands, polders, and rugged mountainous regions, in the Netherlands, Scandinavia and the Alps.
I work in different styles.
Eventhough my paintings don’t like similar, the theme is very similar.
The abstract paintings are a formal approach to landscape, to paint the essence of landscape, to be aware of light, space and emptiness in landscape, the flatness of the Dutch landscape. I am constantly reducing and simplifying elements of the landscape, making them more schematic and conceptual, as well as much flatter.
The landscape paintings refer to Kaspar David Friedrich’s contemplative landscape paintings, to experience the grandeur of the landscape. Friedrich was the great landscape painter of German Romanticism in the 19th century.
Other abstract and action paintings are abstracted translations of feelings and experiences during the walks: immateriality, emptiness, colours or spatiality.

Ready to hang, a frame is not needed.
