About The Artwork
Polymer coating, raw silk powder and oil on canvas. The canvas is stretched on a wooden frame and artwork is ready to hang. Framing is not required. This artwork was created using fine Kremer pigments and hand-stretched canvas (of 380g quality). A thin layer of varnish protects the artwork against UV light and dust. About my work: My latest series of pictorial works crystallise random elemental gestures, which offer a powerful metaphor for the cycle of life that has further inspired me to expand my explorations to include my belief of one universal energy flowing through everything in my work. Though abstract in appearance, the work has a strong organic presence. My canvases with their innumerable nuances allow me to speak about time, space, energy, movement. And thus, about life. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, my work swirls like painterly voyages of the consciousness and draws attention to the beauty, fragility and vulnerability of our environment. It’s really a form of self discovery. For me the path is built on working every day, no matter what the weather.

Fintan Whelan's method of painting is characterised by an immediacy of process and a urgency of vision, which he has been developing over several years. Despite the appearance of serendipity, Whelan's technique involves constant assessment, measurement and exploration of pigments and their configurations, combined with varnishes, oils and a variety of materials. The challenge that Whelan's art presents constitutes his motivation - that is to create resonances between or among the senses by exploiting the ever-changing detail of light and texture. His abstracts are worlds eliciting a multitude of emotional and intellectual responses that we, as viewers, must resolve. Fintan Whelan was born in Dublin and has spent his adult life in Ireland, Spain and Germany (his current home). His work has been exhibited and acquired by numerous collectors across North America, Europe and Australia, and featured in prominent residential projects in UK and USA. Artist in residence at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre (London) and member of BBK (Federal Association of German Fine Artists).
