About The Artwork
I started this painting before the Ukraine invasion. It started out as another ode to beauty, all shiny and nice, but that all changed along with our world. So you will notice that there is no perfection to be found, everything is slightly out of balance, uneven, some parts even look worn out, just like our societies and the values and freedom we took for granted. Monaco's patron saint, Sainte Devote, dominates the scene and shines a light, but she looks down because the dove representing peace no longer flies above our heads. When you look at the dove, ask yourself: Is it rising or falling down? Decorated with flowers and plants I found during my early morning strolls through Monte Carlo.
