About The Artwork

This painting is part of an ongoing series documenting piles of trash in my hometown, Austin, Texas. The piles exist because of a city service called residential bulk pickup. The service provides households two days per year to discard large trash items. I drive for hours most weekends photographing these odd assemblages, then paint them exactly as they were composed by their anonymous former owner. Fundamentally, my work is concerned with impermanence and careful examination of places and possessions exhausted of their value.

Fundamentally, my work is concerned with impermanence. I carefully examine and paint discarded possessions or abandoned places, having been exhausted of their value. I also paint collections of objects which carry deep personal value for their owners.
