Art Description

Painting: Acrylic on Wood.

"Dragon", 2014, acrylic, dried leaves, plaster & glue on fiberboard. The underlying surface is built up in layers from plaster, glue, and dried, pressed leaves; between layers the surface, once dry, is sanded to reveal some of the layers below. Finally the surface was sealed and the image was painting in acrylic using the patterns inherent in the prepared surface -- leaves, spots and dribbles of glue, cracks in the surface -- as the preliminary "drawing".

The resulting image suggests a dragon, or perhaps some exotic sea creature, while still allowing the identity of the materials to assert itself.
