About The Artwork

Abstract works are for the viewer to interpret, and everyone will see different things in them, although the title may hint at my own feelings when creating this piece. I am inspired by nature – sometimes close-up textures and organic shapes, sometimes light and weather, and sometimes nature in the widest sense of the cosmos. I start abstract works with no particular image in mind, concentrating at first on establishing a good balance of colour, tone and texture. As the work progresses, an image or idea will appear, and I then develop the work accordingly. Each work is built up from many layers of paint - often over a very long period of time. In this work, different layers of paint were sprayed, brushed, dropped and poured. *This work ships in a tube. The canvas is painted on the sides and can easily be restretched by your local framer.* Only deep-edge canvas and artist’s quality lightfast colours have been used to create the work. The painting is protected with an acrylic varnish. Copyright Alexander Raynham © 2016. All rights reserved.

I am an artist and writer with paintings in private and corporate collections in Turkey, the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia. I live in Adana, Turkey. I am a member of both local and national jury-selected artists' associations and often participate in Turkish-government sponsored exhibitions in other countries. I paint in both figurative and abstract styles, but most recently my interest has been in capturing the kind of details in nature that you would usually pass by without a second glance: things like weathered rocks, broken branches and dying leaves. The idea behind this 'Vanitas' series is perhaps that the value and beauty of the ordinary things in nature lies in their impermanence. Many of my works are built up of multiple layers over a long period of time − using a variety of techniques and tools. Layers of paint are poured, glazed, scratched, and rubbed away until the desired effect is achieved. Each exhibition I take part in brings me into contact with many artists and art lovers, whose feedback and reactions to my work I find invaluable. I continue to develop new techniques and explore new approaches in order to develop my personal response to the world around me.
