About The Artwork

This original Oil on Primed 100% Cotton Rag Paper is from my series "Drifting and Dreaming". My hope is that these paintings express a certain sense of grace and balance and hint at the universal interconnection of all things throughout time and space. This painting is sold unframed.

Gregory Arnett credits early art lessons and exposure to the cultural mix in and around the San Francisco Bay Area (where he grew up) for his inspiration to blend Eastern and Western art, aesthetics and philosophies in his work. Arnett’s interest in art has always been both visual and technical. This dual interest led to his extensive study of traditional techniques and materials, in addition to the fundamentals of constructing a visual image. An early gift of a set of oil paints and the discovery of Ralph Mayer’s The Artist’s Handbook in the local art store set him on a course of discovery that eventually led not only to his career as an artist, but also to his work in the framing and conservation of traditional and modern artworks on paper and canvas. Over the years, Gregory maintained art studios in Chico, Downtown Los Angeles and Venice Beach, CA. He currently lives and works in the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York. Arnett’s creative influences include the artistic movements Orphism, Biomorphism and Abstract Expressionism. He describes the making of his current paintings as an interdisciplinary process of adding and subtracting lines, shapes and textures to create a layered composition of spatial depth and harmony. “My hope is that these paintings express a certain sense of grace and balance”, Arnett says, “and hint at the universal interconnection of all things throughout time and space.” Gregory Arnett’s artwork can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad.
