About The Artwork

It feels great to be painting portraits again. This is the first portrait I've painted since 2011; abstract being my primary focus over the last 7 years. I really felt like a change though, and I'm glad I did as I feel something raw is revealed when I paint portraits that isn't really evident in my abstract art. As for subject matter, I settled on Adam Driver as he is one of my favourite actors, and I painted him with the aim being to capture his humble yet notable presence. I chose this particular image to paint from as I felt that his somewhat awkward stance drew attention to his interesting outsize features, which I think define his unique character. This piece was created using acrylic paint on professionally stretched quality canvas on a sturdy wooden frame. Satin picture varnish is added on completion to seal the work.

Beth Wyn is an Australian born artist currently living in Auckland, New Zealand. She dabbles in abstract and portrait painting, both applied with an expressive painterly style. She enjoys experimenting with colour and shape, adding unnatural colours to the human form and shapes to test boundaries and draw the eye to the obscurity of the characters she aims to portray. She primarily uses acrylic paint on stretched canvas, preferring the shortened drying time to oil so as to quickly layer up in a wet on wet method. Photographs are used often as a reference, and inspire the patterns and colours that evolve in her paintings.
