Gabrielle Gentile is a figurative and narrative painter based out of Nashville, TN. Her work is a reflection of her perception of reality—as it appears to us, as it truly is, and as it could be. A polymath, writer, and painter, Gabrielle applies her passions in a specific order to facilitate a story’s telling: “I paint the story first and then I take dictation. The picture reads itself to me. Each layer of paint is a page. They implore me to look deeper, to learn more, to look again. As the story is told, I am guided through microcosms of information—the wealth of the world. The rabid hunt for insight and answers plunges me into research. Painting is bread and research is butter.” Gabrielle’s art is the amalgamation of found fragments from the world. Things that she has never seen or heard of, but they’ve been out there, existing sometimes for centuries—waiting for her to find them. “The experience of storytelling has been diluted to suit our modern needs. The desire I have for each work is to promote the human experience of storytelling; to make the esoteric and ancient accessible; and to confront our ideas and ideals.” Each painting, thus, is a story that is so relieved to be told—a visual ode. Her work is whimsical, narrative, allegorical, and feminist. Her delivery of figures in their own unique space sets them apart where they can exist apart from the canvas. Each piece is a separate story, which she portrays through subtle scenes of privacy--a nod to Intimism. She endeavors to build a collection of pieces centered upon the concept of "Women and Their Secrets."
