About The Artwork

Earth Light Series is a collection of affordable colorful large and medium sized impressionistic oil paintings depicting landscapes of the Western United States. Currently I have several hundred paintings for sale. I also take commissions working from a clients personal digital images. I employ a simplified pallet utilizing primary colors and warm natural pigments from the iron oxide group. My preferred surface to paint upon is wood panel. I am drawn to sunrises and sunsets producing dramatic skies and water reflections against distant mountains. Such vistas dominate much of my work. Pine and aspen blended with sage and native plants are elements found in my paintings. Growing up in Utah by parents who loved nature I was exposed to mountains, rivers, lakes, high deserts and plateaus which became their lasting gift to me. Today those early childhood memories deeply influence my work. Great painters such as Edger Payne, Thomas Moran, and John F. Kensett are but a few influential and greatly admired mentors. My job as an artist is to humbly translate multi dimensional light with pigment onto a two dimensional surface. This has been a life long pursuit. At home in my Idaho studio I still work every day to better understand and communicate lights loving effect not just upon our Earth but throughout the Universe.

Some-Thing from the artist Expressing that which can only be communicated by employing some kind of thoughtful action is the creative process. In other words the act of using tools and thoughts to cause that which is no-thing to become some-thing. For some it takes place with palette and brush, for others paper and pen. What ever action employed the person experiencing or viewing the results of such action must now be present. In that moment no longer absent in the past or future because you simply cannot be present and absent, happy or sad at the same time. Perhaps the fundamental reason for implementing thoughtful action to create things is to reminded us to be present in the controllable moment and not dwell in the uncontrollable past or future. A beautiful person, author and great thinker of our century Doctor Wayne Dyer created a-lot of THINGS in his life time and I am reminded of his thoughtful action put to paper with pen. "If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change".
