This is another painting that is influenced by Henri Mattise and Hiroshige.This work is part of a series that is derived from snapshots I took around Lefferts Gardens and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in Brooklyn NY, as well as during travels. I essentially took these pictures because I was excited by the twisting leafy stems as well as the beauty and delicacy of the flower form. Although I am better known for my darkly humorous narrative figurative paintings, returning to painting still-life and landscape is a real pleasure, one that I wish to communicate in these works.
