ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“People are relationship-oriented. Eyes, skin, tongue, ears and nostrils – all these are gateways through which our body receives the food of otherness.” — David Abram Painting from the 2023 Sacred Cave collection. This series of paintings was created during a two-year process of transformation and emergence from darkness. Paintings painted for months, maturing at their own pace. The layers of colors, the structures of brush and hand touches are like layers of changing days, with all their enormity of fleeting emotions, and the dust of earth pigments glues them into one whole of heavy sensual matter, rooting our human nature. The painting is signed, with a certificate of authenticity. TECHNIQUE: Mixed technique: earth raw pigments, acrylic, paper, charcoal, pencil, pastels on cotton canvas.

"What I am searching for is neither the real nor the unreal, but the Subconscious, the mystery of what is Instinctive in the human Race." A. Modigliani Magdalena Orlik's painting is a world of multi-layered, textural images with subdued colors, resembling walls worn by the teeth of time, cave walls, paths and roads trampled by millions of feet, enlargements of living tissues under a microscope, fragments of nature. For her, art is a ritual that heals, changes, discovers the deepest layers of consciousness, and allows contact with oneself. The artist likes monochromatic combinations of earth colors, uses natural pigments, sand particles, and old, faded sheets of paper from bygone eras. Her work is situated on the border between non-figurative and figurative abstraction. In these earthy, dark or light collages, soft, organic color spots and their outlines are like fragments of reality, they do not allow you to cut yourself off from matter and slip into the unrestrained cosmos of interpretation, into the worlds of pure ideas. We are here on earth for a purpose, we cannot fly away, we have roots that remember the seeds from which they grew. It refers to ancient techniques, creating in harmony with nature, using what was at hand, stone, water, plants... Natural pigments such as ochre, umber, sienna, charcoal, vegetable dyes, all are the truest, rawest part of this earth and contain its energy, layers of history. Each stone lives despite stillness, and each color contains the spirit of its powerful elements. Light and darkness, hot and cold, good and evil, through duality we mature, by constantly working to find balance. It's a process that takes time. I paint pictures for months, when the right moment comes, when there is an impulse to add something, to put something differently, or to cover something. What is important is the process, overlapping, becoming and stopping in a place that becomes an eternal point of suspension in time and space, like photography. The movement of the brush stops, but the spirit of the painting lives on in the eye and mind of the observer... ABOUT Born 1976, lives in Kraków. She works as a jewelry designer, creates linen, ecological decorations, and paints pictures. Magdalena Orlik is passionate about minerals, beautiful old objects created by human hands, beautiful places created by nature, a lover of the Mediterranean and a fan of prehistoric mysteries.
