'Establishing Direction', is from my 'Emotional Landscape' series. Measuring 36 x 52 ish inches, this mixed media & collage painting on reclaimed paper has a variable option. The first image is shown trimmed square. The piece can be left untrimmed/ asymmetrical. I love this look & feel that it portrays the honesty of both the expression & materials. I explore the process of accepting and appreciating experiences, those seemingly mundane & those full of surprise, excitement, & overwhelm. Assessing and managing extremes, along with everything in between, and then finding a healthy balance of chaos and calm is a priority. I work to accomplish this goal visually by combining patterns, textures, moments as they come to me, often via reclaimed fabrics & objects. I then add drawn & painted responses alternated with reductive actions or coverage to accomplish surfaces full texture that reach a harmonious meeting of the past and present. Battling overconsumption has become a growing pursuit of mine. At the same time I also address the nonmaterial that we collect in identity and memory.
