About The Artwork

The painting has been shown for the first time in the Lørenskog House Art Hall and the Gallery Jessheim, Norway just after it's complition in 2014. It will be also featured in the Direct Art Magazine nr. 22. The biblical writers often appeal to the growth, flourishing, and demise of plants in their characterization of the human life cycle. Aristotle’s eudaimonia is variously translated as flourishing, well-being, self-fulfillment, or happiness. For him the perfect happiness wherein man’s final end lies is the life of virtuous flourishing with a man’s time spent in contemplation. Our contemporary, Philip Hallie, spoke of a certain joyful peace that one can experience in the eye of a hurricane. The happiness here is not the happiness of the eudaimon subject, but the happiness of someone who fights for goodness and is lucky enough to have been able to carve out for himself a temporary and flimsy shelter of joyful peace in the midst of turmoil.

I'm the Russian born artist living in Norway. I explore humans, human connections, human spiritual beauty and ugliness. Living in a sexist society, I prefer to think that we are not defined by our bodies, but by our minds and souls. The challenge is how we can realistically depict a face or body without focusing on physical appearance, but presenting the creative expression of who we really are. To meet this challenge is the purpose of my work. My art is often inhabited by bizarre human and supernatural figures which makes my work close to Magic Realism. It is appealing to me to make a work of art that is capable of fascinating the brain, which tries to make sense of a scene that goes against all experiences and for which it can find no solution.
