Evening Cloud Painting

This is a response to the coastal landscape at the end of an evening walk where I strive for a sense of stillness and calm. Rather than being direct representation, I seek to invite the viewer into this transient space, and evoke an inner sense of place and time. I work with oils as I find them the most flexible medium for working slowly and intuitively. My paintings always resolve into a simple space and structure which belies the physical and sometimes chaotic process of its making. This can be appreciated by viewing the layers and subtle textures through first hand engagement with the work.
