About The Artwork

„Claire & Pancho“ is part of the series FACING THE WIND. With this series my art becomes more figurative. “Facing the Wind” tells about people whose lives take an unexpected turn. No matter how different the causes may be, the protagonists of this series open up to a change. They are willing to leave well-worn paths – but, at the end no one knows where this journey leads to. Like all works of the series, "Facing the Wind: Claire & Pancho” gives courage to face life’s challenges. Pleas note: The protagonists and their portraits are entirely fictitious. Any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental and unintentional. "Facing the Wind: Claire & Pancho" and two other works from my FACING series were shown in the international traveling exhibition "With the Wind / Con el Viento": 2018 in Chicago (Zhou Brother Art Center) and 2019 in Lanzarote (ARTENMALA). Currently "Claire & Pancho" is not stretched on a stretcher and will be shipped as a roll. If desired, the work can be mounted on a stretcher. Picture size stretched on stretcher: 94 x 94 x 2 cm. The painting is reinforced with a second canvas and can - as supplied - be hung without a stretcher. A ring eyelet made of metal is incorporated into each corner. (See: Photo with a white border, detailed photo with a ring eyelet and an exhibition view of my three works.) Picture or canvas size with white border: W: 104.5 cm, H: 105.5 cm.

Artist Statement: My painting is inspired by those things which move us as human beings, which motivate us, which we are afraid of and which we love: it explores the inner motives of our external deeds. My approach is not scientific, but rather intuitive, and I focus on underlying energies which we encounter as deep and mainly archetypal sentiments. In my painting process, I face these feelings and transform them. Thus, my fear becomes courageous. Sorrow begins to hope and hate turns into love. This process led me in recent years from purely abstract to semi-abstract painting. The focus of these more figurative works are portraits of fictitious persons. They are interwoven with an unspecified, sometimes empty space. My preferred medium is acrylic paint on canvas. And a lot of water! Water implies that moment of chance and unpredictability which is not projectable. This opens up a space where the unsaid and unthought can appear. It is the space of freedom that blows up the boundaries of the familiar and refers to that what is possible beyond it. Romana G.
