Painting: Tempera on Paper, Wood.
This painting measures 12 x 16 inches. It is painted in egg tempera on Arches 140 lb. 100% cotton paper mounted onto a .25 inch birch wood panel. It is framed in a whitewashed barn wood frame and is ready to hang.
I use only materials of the highest archival quality.
Painting is a meditative process for me. Every morning I prepare fresh egg tempera medium which I then combine with pigment. For this painting I applied layers of color underneath, building up to layers of black and white to create a luminous effect. I am drawn to painting with egg tempera as much for the process of applying layers as the natural glow of the finished work that is characteristic of egg tempera paintings. I think each viewer will experience my work in their own unique way. My hope is that my paintings become objects in their own right with a distinct physical and spiritual presence.
