Captivating, expansive rural landscape oil painting on canvas. This expressive oil paintings bold colors and dynamic forms capture the beauty and mystery of a vintage farmstead in Maine. Set upon a hill the white farmhouse invites the viewer to come forward and venture along the trail before them. A mystical sky and emerald green field offers an equally compelling invitation. Inspiration for this painting came from my visit to the Belgrade Lakes area in Maine. It's a place I have a history of visiting. This farmstead is one I would pass daily while walking my dog. On this day a storm was on it's way in and I walked a different way. Coming up to the farm from the bottom of the soft hill engaged me with the landscapes expanse. My imagination was stimulated by the juxtaposition of the entire vista. I snapped a few photos to revel in the moment a bit longer and felt at some point this might be worth painting. The painting was done this year although my photo is from about 8 years ago. Creating this piece was like a travel back through time and fond distant memories. It was painted on a gallery wrapped canvas. This is a signed original that can be hung "as is" or be framed.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
