About The Artwork

A tribute to the beauty of the feminine and the female form, a gelato palette of peach and lemon, delectable fruits and vintage accents. Clockwise from top left. Nasturtium Crown – I designed this piece to give a modern contrast to the other pieces. The face is very contemporary in black and white, while the nasturtium flowers offer delicateness. The piece is offset in a modern acrylic frame. Acrylic on cold pressed, 265gsm, acid free Bamboo paper, made sustainably from 90% Bamboo and 10% cotton rag, acrylic floating frame. Artwork dimension 297x400mm, Framed dimensions 350x460mm. Femme – This work embodies the female form and is a tribute to the beauty of the feminine. The representation of just a female torso is intended to spark curiosity about identity, who is she? Without identity she is anyone and all females at the same time. Oil on board, vintage ornate gold frame. Artwork dimension 460x615mm, Framed dimensions 590x750mm. Girl with Pineapple – This work was inspired by a vintage poster and Matisse's cut outs. I chose to offset the colours in this work with a coloured matt and brought in natural detailing by framing the piece in a raw wood. Mixed media collage, 300gsm fine art acid free watercolour paper, contemporary frame. Artwork dimension 275x370mm, Framed dimensions 420x530mm. Peach Arches - I was inspired by the effect of layering tissue paper to achieve subtle texture and shape for this piece. The geometric patterns provide contrast and relief to the other figurative works, yet the arches reference shapely curves. Paper collage, acrylic on canvas, unframed. Artwork dimension 305x305mm. Vintage Monochrome – I designed this work to bring some bold strength to the collection, and to reference back to Nasturium Crown. I utilised a vintage frame to bring in an element of old versus new, and also to link to the framing of Femme. Oil on board, vintage frame. Framed dimensions 220x270mm. Apricot Abstract - This work is made from wholly recycled and reused products, including reclaimed polystyrene sheeting, recycled paper and a canvas shoe bag! The detailing of this bag can still be seen; on the left margin is the drawstring seam, and the line running along the base of the work was a fold in the bag. I intended this work to be textural, to contrast with the relative smoothness of the other works in the collection. Oil on reused fabric; reclaimed polystyrene; recycled paper. Artwork dimension 290x380mm. Summer Fruits – I brought some fruit home one day and popped them in this vintage fruit bowl. The colours and forms just spoke to me! It is a more traditional style of painting, yet the colours of the fruit are intended to provide connection with the other works. Oil on raw linen stretched canvas, unframed. Artwork dimension 355x465mm.

Hi! I'm Penny. Eclette is my brand and expression of self - I design and handmake eclectic and vibrantly colourful artworks. Eclette is a mix of the words 'palette' and 'eclectic' on account of my love of eclectic homes filled to the brim with colourful, eclectic art - I believe that a house is not a home unless it is full of things that shout individuality and personality. A core focus of my practice is on sustainability – my background in Zoology has led me to find creative ways to reduce and recycle waste and this flows into my art and the evolution of my hand-built vessels, wall sculptures and now furniture! I hand sculpt from a material I call ‘cardcrete’, made from cardboard pulp that uses 100% recycled cardboard. Once the moulded shapes are dry the resulting product is robust and tactile. These unique sculptures create a new life for a waste product.
