This is a painting of a typical New York City tenement building fire escape as seen reflected in a rain puddle.We are looking down onto the ground in order to see up. It is disorienting to see a structure meant to be stable to appear wobbly. I have been inspired to paint this scene as in all my work I present pictures that may at first seem natural. Upon further investigation, you may feel puzzled until you begin to piece the layers together. This is a painting of a reflection - it is one step further removed from reality.
