Karen Parsons is a Melbourne-based artist, challenged and influenced by the unparalleled beauty and form of Australian geology, landscape and light. Her work takes inspiration in glimpses of the extraordinary within the ordinary. Seeing something in the corner of the eye that the logical brain doesn't understand, yet lifting the heart from the mundane into the ethereal. Since immigrating to Australia in 2005, her work has been inspired by the natural beauty of her new environment. Her work is a reflection of the ancient and vibrant natural forms of the Australian earth, sky and natural forms, whose colour and texture describe deeper fragments, reverberations and fossils of an unseen heavenly battle* where the forces of good and evil are played out - "energy made visible". Karen mixes traditional oils with digital art, sheet metal, bronze leaf, textural impasto and scratching techniques to create uniquely rich, layered pieces. Her background in Fashion and Textiles (at John Moores University, Liverpool UK, the notable fashion houses of Pam Hogg, Paul Smith, Ghost, and Isabel Martin and her own couture fashion label, Daughter of Eden) undoubtedly influences her innate sense of line, colour and form, conveying movement as glimpses of light through abstract forms such as arcs, patterns and pathways. Karen has taken on many private commissions and has exhibits her work at galleries and boutiques in the Melbourne area. She lives and works from her home studio in Melbourne. *For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)
