ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by a poem by Virginia Griem, "The Singing Cages" in which she imagines setting free the caged goldfinches she sees in a foreign city. The painting is joyful and celebrates the idea of setting a caged bird free. The goldfinch is created from collaged paper, and the background is textural and indicates the outlines of cages which have been broken open.
