ABOUT THE ARTWORK

One of my mixed watercolor paintings, done at the Baltic Sea, where we had a lot of changing lights, water, wind, clouds... and where the flowing of water keeps fascinating me. This painting shows lots of thin watery layers, giving it a dreamy but still powerful atmosphere. The colors are handmixed and some little silver pigments add some sparkle when hit by direct light, just like you can have it at the sea. All the very thin fluid layers of colors lead to a certain markmaking and leave traces on the canvas that are important for my work. 60x60 cm, unframed, handmixed gouache, ink, watercolor and little silver pigments on gallery wrapped canvas, sides partly painted in the painting process, hook on the back. UV protective varnish. Signed on the back and front and Certificate of Authenticity. (c) 2021 Gesa Reuter, all rights reserved

Based in Germany, Gesa Reuter’s artistic practice started in 1996. She has since studied the techniques of the old Dutch masters, layering selfmade gouache, egg tempera and sometimes oil to build her paintings with different layers of paint from thin to thick. Recently she has discovered the power of watercolours and ink in her work, enjoying the way the watery materials leave marks and traces to describe her inner feelings and emotions. Rather than painting an accurate visual representation of a landscape, she prefers to use the power of memory; her artworks are an expression of her feelings and emotions in the moment of experiencing the landscape." (Inside Artists, Issue 9, Summer 2017) So far, her works have been exhibited in Germany and Europe, mainly sold to private collectors in Germany, U.S.A., UK, NL, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, to architects, small companies, private medical and psychological practices. In public collection of Amateras Foundation, Bulgaria, NHS England and Kunsthaus Stove, Germany.
