Robert Suto, painter was born in Miskolc, Hungary. He studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 2003. The artist has had a number of exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. Miskolc. inter alia, Budapest, Szentendre, Debrecen, Szeged, Székelyudvarhely (RO), Marosvásárhely (RO), Brussels (BE) and Prague (CZ). His awards include Hajdúsági International Art Workshop’s Special Award (2006), Barcsay Award (2008), Nicholas Mazsaroff Award (2011). His paintings mainly depict buildings. These are usually “found” abandoned factory buildings due for demolition, or those already demolished. These are shown pictorially isolated. Personalized portraits of dead objects. The landscape fulfills a secondary role of a kind of timeless plane reinforcing and carrying the viewer into the possibility of attaining the driving motif. Without real space, not in real time. These are vision-based paintings, but altered and reformulated, characterized by their realization. Large formal massive elements strongly feature in his paintings. Pseudo landscape and sense of field. Compact shapes which ideas coming from architectural forms. Multiple dissolves and controlled fluidizes, splashes that are many times overwritten and surfaces which are wiped back, counter pointing brush usage which give a framework to the strongly colourist gestures, monocrhome shapes which summon projectional figures, they all refers to my latest creations. It’s an attempt to play with common usual concinnous ratios. AWARDS & GRANTS 2014 XXII.
