About The Artwork

In my most recent works, mysterious forms emerge like leaves, hair strands, muscle fibers over monochrome colored backgrounds or surfaces. As I hand cut and bend the surface in organic ways I reveal various layers or levels, the interior, the secret to ourselves. A secret space behind the surface creating a third dimension behind the folds. The surface seems to delve into the interior of the paper which has now become scultpure. A flower blooms through the bends of the paper, maybe a ripple of an object that lands in liquid. The methodical cuts or incisions produce petals, organic forms that surround the center, or on a more lineal level, like ocean waves. Layers intertwine with each other, there is a constant search for geometry, pattern, chaos and perfection. There is a poetic tension between the organic and chaotic, the sharpness and precision, but then again there is a contemplative serenity as you look into the interior, as we look into ourselves. This most recent body of work impacts and intrigues beacuse of its form, three-dimensionality and stillness, a mystery and reality of a vulnerable surface that has been extruded, pressed, forced and created.
