The foggy rooms are the newest works on canvas from Marius D. Kettler, here as in the past these paintings are based on the same technique as of the color rooms, utilizing the self produced luminescent dayglow acrylic paint. The series foggy rooms have the same layered structure, combined with subtle pencil drawing elements in the compositions. The color sceme is yellow, orange, blue, green and white. New colors originate through the layered surface, white as a transparent color uniting the levels of spatial area and color intensity.

The Color Rooms / Farb Räume
Marius D. Kettler began with these luminescent abstract works on canvas 2009.
The first series were created with three different day glow red tones, cyclam red, ziegel red and flame red, in conjunction with the color gold orange. The layers of paint and the transparency of the paint, develop the color rooms. Each color has it`s own temperature depending on the reaction of light, working with the contrasts and similarities of color that correlate and lead to color congruity. The color white as a foundation that arises from underneath to the upper surface creates another level of light, where the white paint on the red surface deepens the dimensions of the color room.
The type of light is the theme, cold daylight, sunlight, black light, or indoor lighting, makes an immense difference as to how the paintings luminate. This paint is self produced with special pigments bonded into a certain consistency that punctuates the glow effect. The format of the canvas determines the motive structure of the painting. In many works subtle drawings are incorporated before the painting is finished. The fine pencil drawing on the surface of the painting brings an additional dimension into the work when focusing on the drawing, this can change the impression of the colors in the painting.

Marius D. Kettler (b.1961) is a painter, composer sound and video artist, who lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Kettler works thematically, for his sound installations and multi channel sound/music compositions. Experimenting with spatial environments, artificial or natural, investigating the physical aspect of sound, acoustic transparency and site specific, interactive sound transmission. The sound installations vary from combined multi channel compositions presented in the form of sound/paintings where the surface of the canvas functions as the speaker. Other sound installations are sculptural interactive large format installations, either, electromagnetic, seismographic, mechanical or hybrid works. Visual and acoustic space is configured with maximal simplicity. The compositions are recorded with instruments, mechanical sounds and electro noise, the digitally processed material is then transformed into multi channel or mono sound installations. Field recordings include : natural sounds, industrial cites, sounds from rural and urban areas. He investigates the origin and boundaries of sound, where the sensory characteristics of memory and association influence the perceptive moment. The series of paintings that are titled Color rooms are works, acrylic paint on canvas, utilizing day glow fluorescent color pigments. Examining the contrasts and similarities of color that correlates and lead to color congruity, parallel the non contrasts become color sensations. Experimenting with the interaction of surfaces where ordinary paint pigments on plane surfaces interact with the pigments of day glow paint. In these works vibrant color rooms originate from surfaces, structures and patterns, creating an abstract perspective through the interaction of color and light. The exploration of color, the creation of surfaces and structures with a glowing color impact and depth, resulting with an additional intense three dimensional quality.
