About The Artwork

What started out as just a fun little painting turned into a learning experience. I had always thought of the fortune cookie as a purely Chinese culinary invention. However, I learned that although they are often served as dessert in Chinese restaurants in the U.S, they are not a tradition in China. Furthermore, their exact origin is unclear. They most likely originated from cookies made by Japanese immigrants to the United States in the 19th or early 20th century. One additional note, I ate my still life.

Robinson is a self-taught artist living in Phoenix, Arizona. She finds her inspiration in the people and places of the southwest. She allows the subject matter to dictate the style, but her work always involves a healthy dose of delicious color. "Color and light are my muses. I know instantly when I see a scene how I'll paint it. My subjects speak to me and I listen."
